Bad Plumbing Work

Bad Plumbing Work

Bad Plumbing Work? I’ve seen worse, but I guess this is what happens when you don’t have the funds and a lot of friends who think they’re plumbers. Actually, the homeowners who purchased this home are lovely people and even though they had a home inspection, I think the inspector in this case dropped the ball.

Bad enough all the P.E.X. the pipe you see used here is not legal in New York City, if it ever failed and caused water damage, their insurance company would most likely not honor a claim. But this is just part of the problem. Soon after moving into their new home and with the onset of winter, they realized something was not quite right with the steam heating system.

Uneven heat, excessive banging, water spitting out of the air valves in the cast iron radiators were only the symptoms. When I took a look at the boiler I was shocked to see how it was installed! They obviously did not look at the manufacturer’s recommended installation instructions. The result ended up being a totally unworkable steam heating system.

Bad Plumbing Work for sure! Check out the boiler installation towards the end of the video and if you’re a heating professional you’ll see the problem right away. I’ll be returning to this home before the end of September 2020 to re-pipe the boiler and I’ll post that video immediately after. I know friends are intentioned, but jobs like this are better left to the professional.

Regards & Happy Plumbing!
